Your First Visit: What to Expect
1.
Before Treatment:
On your first visit to the clinic, you will be asked to fill out a confidential health history form (it's a good idea to arrive 15 minutes early for this reason). This is to rule out any existing injuries or health conditions and to make sure that the massage treatment you receive will be safe for you. The massage therapist will discuss this form with you as well as your goals for treatment. A physical assessment may also be performed by the therapist in order to formulate an effective and appropriate treatment plan. The massage therapist will review the treatment plan with you to make sure you understand what will happen during the treatment. Before your massage treatment begins, the massage therapist will leave the room and allow you to undress to your comfort level and cover yourself on the massage table. |
2.During Treatment:
During your treatment, it is important to us that you remain comfortable and relaxed. You should let the massage therapist know if you are ever uncomfortable with any aspect of the treatment so that the the treatment can be modified accordingly. It is important to let the massage therapist know if you require more or less pressure or if you need to change position on the table. |
3. After Treatment:
After your massage treatment, we hope you're feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Your therapist will leave the room to allow you to dress. A short re-assessment may be performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the massage treatment. The massage therapist may also assign home care. Home care refers to a variety of exercises and hydrotherapy modalities that you can do at home. Home care may consist of stretching and/or strengthening exercises, low grade self-mobilizations for the joints or hydrotherapy. It is important to participate in the home care assigned by the massage therapist, as it is a supplement to treatment. The massage therapist will also discuss with you a plan for ongoing treatment (if needed) and will make any necessary referrals to other health care practitioners. |
