Registered Massage Therapists in Ontario:  Qualifications and Credentials

A Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario has completed the certification exams and registration process as required by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).  Their education consists of a two to three year college diploma program, the focus of which is the study of anatomy, pathophysiology, clinical and orthopaedic assessment and ethics in healthcare.  Only those who have completed a recognized diploma program and the registration process are permitted to use the titles "Registered Massage Therapist", or "Massage Therapist".  Massage Therapists are required by the CMTO to participate in the Quality Assurance Program which includes self-assessment and peer assessment components as well as continuing education.  For more information on Registered Massage Therapists or the practice of massage therapy in Ontario, visit www.cmto.com.
