Safety Guidelines for Exercise During Pregnancy:
1. Be sure to consult with your doctor or midwife before beginning or changing your exercise program.
2. Always warm up your muscles before activity and stretch after your activity.
3. Drink water before, during and after your activity.
4. Your body temperature should not exceed 38 degrees celsius. Avoid being active in warm, humid weather especially during the first trimester or when you are ill and have a fever. Check the temperature of a heated pool before swimming. Avoid hot tubs and whirlpools.
5. Avoid exercises which require you to lie on your back after four months or 16 weeks of pregnancy. Instead, perform the exercises while lying on your side, sitting, or standing.
